Washington, CT - The Devereux Glenholme School’s Community Service Program runs continuously throughout the year and is one of the core values of our school. In Community Service, students are actively involved in projects both on and off campus, provided opportunities to challenge themselves, meet new people, and see them selves grow as humanitarians. Through their experiences in Community Service, students learn the importance of volunteering, how they can make a positive impact in someone's life, as well as what they can do to help.

During the summer, Community Service sponsored a Baby Bundle Drive with the goal to raise enough baby items to create starter bundles for mothers-in-need. Over a two week period, the efforts of Abby W., Michelle F. and Angela D. were rewarded, as the program collected enough supplies to create four large baby bundles. These bundles were donated to a local shelter.

Heading into the holidays, Community Service has set it sights on a record food drive for Thanksgiving. The event kicked off on Monday, October 20 and concludes on Friday, November 21. The students endeavor to make and decorate the baskets to deliver the food in and are collecting pie mixes and ingredients, pie shells, cornbread mix, butter, turkeys (5-8 lbs), juices, gravy, cranberry sauce, canned vegetables, stuffing, paper plates and napkins. Last year, students were able to deliver eight full meals to families in need and would very much like to beat last year’s record.

The Devereux Glenholme School is an exceptional learning environment for young people with special needs. Set on over 100 acres in Washington, Connecticut, Glenholme is ideal for students, ages 11-21, with varying levels of academic, social and emotional development; as our philosophy is that the development of the whole student contributes to academic success. The Glenholme School’s goal is to prepare its graduates for continued education in traditional schools, boarding schools, colleges and universities.
