Washington, CT - The Devereux Glenholme School celebrated its fourth annual Parents’ Weekend, May 2 -3, 2008. While the weather did not cooperate, a great time was still had by all. Over 90 percent of Glenholme families made the trip, some from as far away as California and Washington State.

The rain couldn’t dampen the spirits of the families, happy to spend time together viewing the campus art show, spring Chorale Concert and and participating in the many activities planned on campus. The students challenged the parents in soccer, basketball and softball games. Surprisingly, “age” prevailed over youth, and the parents were victorious in all of the athletic events. Perhaps the students were being charitable in letting the older set revisit their glory days? The families could also partake in a climbing tower, a Segway obstacle course, the Glenholme fitness center and a bungee run.

Saturday evening, the students remained on campus to appreciate a catered barbeque and silent auction where they bid on special trips and gifts donated by Glenholme staff members. The parents enjoyed dinner and a “grown-up” auction at the Heritage Resort and Conference Center. They bid on fabulous prizes like a walk-on role in a major motion picture, sports tickets and international vacations.

Proceeds from all of the weekend’s events went to the Glenholme Center for the Arts Campaign. The Center for the Arts will enrich the existing music, dance and visual arts programs. The new Arts building plan includes the renovation of existing buildings and will become home to the Glenholme theater, art and music programs. In addition, it will serve as the only venue on campus large enough to seat all students and faculty at one time for performances and assemblies. Plans include a 300-seat theater including including back stage and balcony area, classrooms, music practice rooms, costume workshop space, art extension lobby and faculty offices.

The Devereux Glenholme School is a specialized boarding school on over 100 acres in the Litchfield Hills of Connecticut that provides a therapeutic program and exceptional learning environment to address varying levels of academic, social and emotional development in boys and girls ages 9-18. Glenholme’s goal is to prepare its graduates for continued education in traditional schools, boarding schools, colleges and universities.
