New York - Unlike the originally scheduled date in June, the weather cooperated this time around allowing the Emergency One/Devereux 2006 Charitable Golf Tournament to go off without a hitch on Wednesday, July 26.

Golfers from Dutchess, Ulster, Columbia Counties and beyond descended on Red Hook Golf Club to raise money for the Tara Smith Memorial Fund. Ms. Smith was a direct care worker at Devereux New York who died tragically in a car accident in 1991 on her way home from work. Funds raised at the tournament go toward the purchase of clothing, winter coats and many other items for the children in Devereux’s care.

"With Emergency One’s help, this has been the most successful tournament we’ve had," said John O’Keefe, Executive Director, to the crowd gathered for lunch. "I want to thank you all for your participation and generosity, all of which will help us brighten and enrich the lives of the children in our care."

Participants enjoyed 18 holes on one of the finer courses in the Hudson Valley region as well as a terrific continental breakfast and luncheon provided by Café Lucchaela. There were also a ton of raffle prizes and several items available in the silent auction including sets of Yankees box seats to upcoming games and tickets to the Giants-Jets pre-season match-up in August. After all was said and done, the tournament raised upwards of $9,000 for the Tara Smith Memorial Fund.

Taking home the honor of tournament winners were the gentlemen of Devereux New York's sister center in Connecticut, Devereux Glenholme. The foursome consisting of Joe Percivale, Gary Fitzherbert, Fred Cass and C.J. Kensten carded a remarkable 12-under to take top honors.

Special thanks for all their help go to: Todd Martin, Margaret Herbert and Maria Riccio of Emergency One, Jim Rodden from the City of Kingston and Casey Leffler, Sharon Turner, Wayne Kihlmire, Holly Dedrick, Judy Bentley, Trish Scott and Brendon K. from Devereux New York—without these individuals there would have been no tournament.
